I am ever so thankful for the brilliant and wonderful Marian Bantjes. Her insights on her work provide such an awareness of the world that I am inexhaustibly intrigued by. The symbiosis of poetry, visually and thoughtfully, and design filled with love provides me with endless inspiration. I hope you enjoy this wonderful video as much as I do.

Type Battles #33: Futura Holiday Dingbats

Every once in a while Typophile hosts a new battle for fellow members to compete in a type nerd’s version of a street battle. The current battle is to create 5 Futura dingbats

“As with any street battle, there is no panel of judges and no prize — only the ability to call yourself the best on the block.”

Here’s my entry. I’m one of the few to try to do it for Futura Bold. Also, since the limit of the space when dealing with such heavy strokes, I decided to make them very simpler and more iconic. There haven’t been many other entries yet. Any challengers up for the task?

Jay Ryan is an amazing character. I met him 2 springs ago when our AIGA RIT student group brought him in for a lecture and screenprinting demo. I have two of his posters; I love and cherish them. He is also bass of Dianogah. That’s them playing in the background. Check him out at The Bird Machine
